Let's see...Win8 is still in dev. stage...people want "everything" to be compatable from the get go.
"It ain't gonna happen!" I remember when patience was a virtue.

Win8 not in beta yet...avast v.7 not in beta yet. Please put 2 plus 2 together.
Dell Inspiron, Win10x64--HP Envy Win10x64--Both systems Avast Free v17.9.2322, Comodo Firewall v8.2 w/D+, MalwareBytes v3.0, OpenDNS, Super Anti-Spyware, Spyware Blaster, MCShield, Unchecky, Vivaldi Browser and, various browser security tools.

"Look before you leap!" Use online scanners before you click on any link.

Microsoft Security Essentials Beta is now available.
You can sign up for it at: http://www.ghacks.net/2011/11/19/microsoft-security-essentials-beta-program-sign-up/
I'm currently testing it on Windows 8 Developers Preview set up on a separate Partition using 100 Gig of the current HD.
Here are some screen shots:

(Click on the image for a slideshow)

The version of Windows Defender that comes with Windows 8 also acts as an antivirus since it checks everything.
I have no clue as to how effective it is which is why I've added the MSE beta to that partition.

Hopefully there will soon be an avast! beta to test in place of MSE.  :)

avast! 6 is not compatible with Windows 8.
Installing it may work but how much protection are you actually getting ???
If the developers tell you that it doesn't work on Windows 8, are you going to trust it to protect
your system ???
I know I will not and wait for a build of avast! that actually is meant to run on Windows 8.

The next time that you have a proiblem with Windows 7 (Also works in Windows 8 Developers Copy)
Why not use a tool that's already built into the operating system to solve your problem ???

Win7 and Windows 8 built-in Problem Steps Recorder

How do I use Problem Steps Recorder?
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/How-do-I-use-Problem-Steps-Recorder

Video demo of how to use this function:

Here's the information you'll need to set up a shortcut on your desktop:

Next time you run into a re-occurring problem, give this a try and become a Computer Guru.

For me, the day I stop learning is the day I'll be 6 feet under.  ;D
I actually got some of the information in one of the  News Letters that I subscribe to.
I just enhanced it and added screen shots and found out the actual program the article was
talking about so that I could create a desktop shortcut.
Even though it's buried in the control panel functions, I couldn't find the actual program used
without a lot of digging.
The fun of learning.  :)

Correct. It creates the file with all the information including the screen shots.
This program was actually developed for professional who help customers track down the
problems.
Remember, it only works for problems you can recreate. Or problems that happen at
a predictable time after you launch the system   etc.
