To the people that is using windows 8 dev preview..  What do you think of it... do you think it will be a fail like windows vista was? (just wondering on opininos )  :D

I said I would give Win 8 a fair shot, and I did. It's now off my system as I couldn't find anything I liked about it. I'm planning to buy several copies of Windows 7 to keep on hand so that if I have to get a new system after 8 comes out, I can format and install Windows 7.

So you want to try Windows 8 but don't like the new Start Button.

Now you can use Windows 8 and still have the old familiar Start Button Functions:

@ClassyJakey

That post was made last year. At that time avast! was still version 6 and that version was not compatible with the then available
Windows 8 Developers Preview.

Currently, Windows 8 is the Consumers beta version and avast!7 is compatible with that version.

Please Don't Misquote.
Thanks

Given the date of the post you quoted, 20 September 2011, that was the win8 developer build and also avast6. As mentioned later in the topic it wouldn't be compatible as MS were blocking AVs other than MSE in the developer preview.

That changed on the consumer preview, and later build versions of avast7

avast7 1407 isn't fully compatible with CP right now (behav shield & sandbox-based features don't wok there)
new avast7 build (expected maybe tomorrow) should be work with CP (old DevPreview build isn't supported anymore)

Very handy no doubt, hopefully this tool will still work when win8 goes Gold. Why the hell MS haven't included this as a regular option in win8 (skip/disable Metro) is beyond me as by far this is the least well liked part of win8 in the reviews I have read.

Simple answer:
It's also the windows phone interface.
Will be the Microsoft Surface interface when it's released.

I know that, but why p*** off their core users to sell a few phones, the windows phones are flying of the shelves like lead balloons.

I don't see a problem with the MS Surface using what is essentially a touch screen OS (a.k.a. Metro) as that is intuitive with the device. In fact I quite like the Surface with its incorporated keyboard in its cover, so can be used for more keyboard intensive tasks.

But working on a  large screen monitor (a.k.a. desktop) with the same interface is crazy even if it were a touch screen, who works with their arms at shoulder level.

The big clincher on the MS Surface will be exactly what incarnation of win8 it will run, the applications it can run and where it can get them. If MS are going to try the walled garden approach of Apple where you can only get apps from the MS store, who is going to buy a new system that requires you replace all of your existing software. Then it becomes a very expensive and different proposition.
