Windows 8 feature - Boot to desktop

Easier way without using any software

The system will boot to the desktop at startup, but only if you leave an explorer window open at shutdown. It's still a great way if you don't want to use special software, such as Stardock's Start8.

Interesting Chris but why have to work around things like that in the first place when something like Classic Shell does what's needed far better.

Just user preference. If someone doesn't want to install the software, then they can use this trick, especially if someone is working on their Windows 8 system. They can leave their last accessed folder open and come back to it. It is better than making many changes using Classic Shell. Classic Shell is a nice program.

It is not officially supporting Windows 8 as well. I think so because their website makes no mention of it.

Another easier way is

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"Shell"="explorer.exe /select,explorer.exe

When I go to Windows Activation, I get the following:

When I select the activate the following happens:

Does any one have an answer ??? (The product is genuine that's why this doesn't make any sense.)
Mystery solved:

Enter the following into the search box:
slui.exe 3
(notice the space between exe and 3)

Select the item found under Apps:

and you'll see the following:

Now simply fill in your activation Key and you'll wind up with the following result:

Since it took quite a few hours and some luck to find this, I thought this might save someone else from getting a headache.

Less than 24 hrs ago, Microsoft released Windows 8 RTM to TechNet and MSDN subscribers.

If you're interested in trying windows 8, you can now Download a 90-Day Trial Version of Windows 8 RTM Absolutely Free:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/jj554510.aspx

Scroll down to the bottom of the article and pick the version you need

Since this version can not be upgraded to the full version,
I would suggest that you install it on a separate partition or a test machine.
At the end of the 90 day trial period, this version will no longer be functional in as much as
the reminders and blank screens every hour will make it useless.
