I need to get rid of Win32:Trojan-Gen
« on: November 09, 2004, 08:47:50 PM »
Hi there when im scanning for spyware with ad-aware my avast alerts me to a virus in my C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp. One of the directories inside of there contains that virus so i put the virus inside my avast virus vault but the virus still pops up once in a while.

Does anyone know how to get rid of this virus for good if it is a virus.

Also this file wsem217.dll is always found in the avast log when it alerts me to a virus.

So anyone know how to get rid of this?

BTW whenever i scan for spyware using ad-aware it comes back again. And again i have to put it in the virus vault in avast.

You can delete all files of that directory. It's a temporary folder.
After that, if you can't delete, schedule a boot scanning  8)

Well even if i delete all the files in the temp directory it will just come back again and again. Not the first time i deleted that directory and then scanning for spyware with ad-aware found the virus.

I did do a bootscan and it found a virus in my pestpatrol directory.

Well when im scanning with ad-aware my avast doesnt go on alert. But when i connect to the net and open my internet browswer it loads then i close it for whatever reason and try to reopen it and it doesnt load it takes a while until it loads back up.

Same thing goes for other programs they dont load up after a while.

Now sure if this is going to be once in a while type of thing but as i said about the programs loading and sometimes not loading. I turned off my pc twice and my computer programs loaded when i clicked on any program to load. So im not sure what is going on.

You're definetivelly not clean  :'(
I suggest:
1) avast boot time scanning
2) Spybot startup scanning
3) Ad-aware scanning

Try this,
unregister wsem217.dll

regsvr32 /u c:\winnt\wsem217.dll  from a command prompt

reboot and delete through windows explorer (show all files) wsem217.dll

schedule a full boot-time scan and reboot again.

I'm assuming you are using XP btw.

Well i must be clean cause i dont have wsem217.dll on my computer.

Also its been 3 or 5 times i turned my computer back on and my programs all of them have loaded up when i'm connected to the net.

Ive done spybot scanning and ad-aware scanning and there is no spyware. Last time i did a bootscan with avast it found the trojan and i deleted it so as of right now there is no issues.

Well still no issues and i think that issue that caused my internet explorer and other programs not to run when i was connected to the net was something that was checked in my startup list in msconfig. After i took the program out and it wasn't checked things are running fast now.
