my Key was stolen
« on: November 11, 2004, 02:49:14 AM »
I purchased a new key for two years Avast Pro and my brother has avast pro also.
his key ran out, and all of a sudden he said his was working again.
his key ran out and he was here the other day and was on my computer.
i sneaked a peek at his computer and my key is in his machine too.
i asked him to remove it and he won't. Said they won't care or know.
I paid for this and don't want any trouble from this.
is there any way to de-activate my key and send me a new one?

???

Almost sure they will but can you send emails to support (at) avast.com and vlk (at) avast.com (where (at) is @).

Looks like you need to password protect access to your computer.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Strange thing about this story is that Avast doesn't show the entire key anywhere. (at least I couldn't find it ???) So it is not likely that his brother took it from his system. And using the partial part of the key which can be seen in the "about" doesn't work.

Ahhh but there are ways to find keys  :)

For example there is a little program called keyfinder that will tell you the reg key for ANY Microsoft Windows product on ANY machine

humm..    sounds like his brother knows his way around/inside a computer...

possible it shows up in registry someplace?

For security reasons...
Connie, that won't work here with avast...

Eddy

If he purchased it online alwil would of emailed it to him, his brother could simply of read his email, or if he got the retail version from the shop, it would be on the box. (i think)

Good to hear, just an idea but mabey you should password your user account on your pc so your brother can't steal it again.
