Avast Internet Security & Virtualbox bridged network
« on: September 29, 2011, 03:21:05 PM »
I installed Virtualbox with linux but the bridged network is blocked by avast.
As soon as I disable avast firewall I have a flawless network connection.
I added all oracle apps (.exe) from the directory C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox to the allowed apps in the firewall, but no go.

The only way to connect is to disable the firewall.
Curiosity: choosing NAT works but a lil bit slow ...
How can I unleash Avast Firewall stop blocking bridged network?

I'm going to "contribute" with a comment about a different firewall (not Avast's one), just to give you a possible tip/direction.

Under Vista/Seven, Windows built-in default firewall has an "Advanced" tab where all network connections are listed. This should include your "Virtualbox Network" (or whichever the name was, I don't remember right now). Each Network listed has a checkbox to its side.

This means that the normal rules in Windows built-in default firewall can be applied to only part of the Network connections, and leave out others.

So, maybe you need to specify the new Virtualbox Network connection in your firewall rules?

Hi, please check the "Internet Connection Sharing mode" checkbox on the Firewall / Expert settings dialog. That should help.

Hi,

This didn't work for me ..

I have a new iMac 27.5 running virtualbox and Windows 7. I have installed my licensed copy of avast latest version for April 2012 and all is up to date and running correctly.

I have ticked the internet sharing option from avast - firewall -advanced and restarted the virtualbox windows 7, but i get no internet ... if i permanently disable the firewall the restart the virtual guest then i get full internet access .... if i then enable the firewall, i still get access to the network and internet until i shutdown and re-start.

Any ideas?

Jason

Hi jswain,
your situation is entirely different. You are running avast inside the VM box, as opposed to the original poster, who ran avast on the host.

It might help, if you would post some info about the versions and settings you are using. We have already tried that here, with MAC OS 10.7.3, VirtualBox (v4.1.12) and there are no apparent problems with network access in both NAT and Bridge network modes.

Hi all.

Windows 8, Avast internet security 8.0.1489, Virtualbox 4.2.16, Oracle Linux 6 guest with bridged interface.

Avast blocks in/out traffic from guest OS.
Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

Still the same issue comes up from now and then. I run VirtualBox on a W8.1 Host with networking in Briged mode. It only works when I remove the 'Avast Firewall Driver' binding from my NIC.
