eliminate unnecessary processes
« on: October 02, 2011, 05:26:01 PM »
i have been told that i have too many processes running in the background - i have run avast, malware, and spybot and have eliminated many unneccessary programs-still i have between 29 and 33 processes running -what can i do next and would any of these be viruses that avast did not catch?

How are we going to know without knowing what is actually runing on your system  ::) iv got 33 processes running on one system and 60 on another so alot depends on the computer itself and hardware\software that it runs.

This should also have been posted in the general topics.

Who told you that ?

I have 50 processes currently running without issue. There has to be a reason to par down unnecessary processes and that would generally be because your system is running very slow.

What should you do next, ignore advice that is patently wrong.

Without knowing what these processes are there is no way to tell if they are legit or otherwise. But with avast MBAM and spybot (which would suggest uninstalling) and found nothing they are 'probably' legit.

I usually have between 58 and 64 processes running on my Vista machine. Around 10 of them are for AV, HP printer and Intel integrated graphics. Vista is bloated and rather process-heavy by default.

Around 30 processes seems normal range for XP. But I haven't used XP in ages.

Vista might be bloated (I have never used it), but my little win7 starter, acer netbook has 68 processes and I have hardly anything running on that, so I think that is damn heavy.

Unfortunately we kn ow nothing about your system to even hazard a guess as to why this might be.

e.g. OS, CPU, RAM, Graphics card/chip, etc. ?

Not to mention has this always been the case, and if not when did it start (and what changed around that time) ?

Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
