New Q
« on: October 02, 2011, 06:18:22 AM »
Do I still need to run some sort of spyware program in conjunction with Avast? I already had Spybot downloaded but since I have downloaded Avast I cannot run it any more. I re-installed Spybot but it still will not run.

Get rid of spybot and use Malwarebytes, a much better program.

Does Malwarebytes just detect or does it remove as well?

It detects and removes, very well in fact, among the best at that.  What the free version of Malwarebytes lacks is any kind of real-time protection.

Does any of the free ones have real time protection?

spywareterminator does...but again not as good as MalwareBytes
if you look in the Malware removal forums like Geeks to Go / Bleepingcomputer etc... Malwarebytes is the one tool they try first bc it is the best
the price for MalwareBytes PRO is a one time fee for a life time license   ;)

Get the Professional ver. of MBAM. It costs $15 - $25 depending who you buy it from. The cost is also one-time for a lifetime license. Pro ver. includes realtime protection plus IP blocking.

Ad-Aware free have some realtime protection...it will report changes to the registry, it also have a integrated Ikarus virus engine.....it may conflict with avast ?
and it is very big...121MB   Malwarebytes is only 9.4mb

I downloaded Malwarebytes and it sure is amazingly faster to download and to scan with than Ad-Aware.
