When I temporarily remoged Avast! from my system while diagnosing a problem, I found that deleting the defunct \Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5 directory my ability to run scripts suddenly stopped. 'Wscript.exe' was the chosen executable BUT the Registry was pointing to this location and calling for 'AhAscr.dll'. Even as über Administrator I could not change this - Registry wouldn't let me.
So, after re-installing Avast! (which put it in a totally different directory (\Program Files\Avast Software\Avast) I copied the aforementioned DLL into a folder shain that the Registry called for.
My ability to run scripts returned.
What I need to know is WHY I had to do that. Why is Avast! screwing with my scripting engine? Can anyone tell me this?
