Can't connect to update server

For some reason avast can't update anymore. When I start my computer a red box shows on the lower right saying that it couldn't update. When I open the interface and go to 'update engine and definitions' and click on the 'update' button it says 'cannot connect to the server' After maybe a minute an error similar to 'Failed to sign on to download800.avast.com' (I don't have avast installed in English so I don't know the exact English error message).

I already tried to uninstall avast, restart, run the uninstall utility, restart, run ccleaner, download and install avast again, but that doesn't didn't solve anything...

Anything else that I can do to make avast work again?

Repair avast:
1. Control Panel - Add/Remove programs - avast!
2. Scroll down and click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
