Help. Unblocking accidentally blocked program
« on: October 08, 2011, 07:17:52 PM »
Hiya, I was wondering would anyone be able to help me, I have accidentally blocked a program that I need, I've googled how to fix this and all the answers say to adjust your firewall on avast. However, I cannot find my firewall anywhere. I've tired reinstalling avast and it still hasn't solved the problem.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

It is not so clear to me what exactly you mean with "block" the program.

Do you mean Windows Defender?

Do you mean that the "blocked" attribute is set (properties of the file)?

Do you mean the firewall?

Or...

Do you mean Avast blocking from download or running? If this last one is the one, then Avast is doing its job. Change Avast to "ask" instead of "automatically block".

If you already have the file in your system, scan it. If everything is OK, select the file properties and unblock it. Run it again, and in case Avast asks again, select the choice you want.

You know the way that it comes up on the bottom right of the screen to say if you give the program permission to access the internet or not? Well instead of saying 'allow' I hit the 'block' button. I have scanned my computer with avast and malware bytes and theres no viruses or anything. But I was just wondering is there anyway to undo this block? Sorry if this is confusing and worded really badly, technology and computers are not my strong point.

Simply repeat the procedure that triggered that connection. Am I missing something?

I've tried that too. I really am useless with computers. Hopefully it sorts itself out.

Go to Firewall > Application rules > Choose the manufacturer > Delete the rule (right clicking it).
It will be created again when needed.

Are you running McAffee antivirus or just the firewall?
