ok, you have messed around enough
Let's try to approach it in a different way.
- Download and install StartUp.cpl. (can be found
HERE)
- uninstall Avast using the util from the website
- reboot
- disable everything from loading that isn't needed for the system to work properly
- install Avast 4.5
- reboot
If this solves it, you know where to look.
If it doesn't solve/change anything, have a look at the system log, event log and Avast's log file. It may tell you more about what is going on.
