Distributed deployment over VPN
« on: October 06, 2011, 01:36:35 PM »
Hi,

I have just installed Avast BP on our domain network and have found it easy to deploy on the main subnet.

We have a second network which is located over a low-speed vpn and we also need to protect about 6 computers on that side.

Is it possible to set up a second mirror on the other side for those clients to pull their updates from? The VPN will be too slow and too critical to allow updates to be pulled from the main site.

Sophos AV had this functionality where you could designate a PC as a distribution source for updates, meaning that although the clients reported to the main site for stats, updates came from a single source on the remote site, preventing VPN from being hammered.

Hope you can help,

Keith

mirrors are not possible with SBC.
But your suggestion of having a master computer (not mirror) sounds good, tho that computer should always be turned on.

Maybe you could ask for 2 license files. with the six clients in 1 file the rest in the other for your main site.

install SBC on both sites and install the 6 client license file on the computer that is on your other site.

Thanks for the advice. I noticed in the group settings in the admin console, it was possible to untick an option marked "Update from mirror".

Would that mean that the clients would then get their updates directly from the internet rather than contacting the mirror?

This may be an acceptable scenario for us - having the clients managed from one console but with a group of clients pulling their updates from the internet rather than from the mirror.

yes thats basicly what it means

this ofcourse only works if the other location have their own internetconnection next to the vpn connection, routed
