Inoperative shortcuts
« on: October 13, 2011, 11:18:50 PM »
Hello -

I just installed Avast (free)on my Windows Vista system, replacing Trend Micro which was expiring. After problems with uninstalling Trend, I managed to install Avast, which now seems to be working. But now the computer does not respond to any shortcuts! For anything - from the start menu or desktop or within folders. The only way I can run a program is to open the location and then open the program. This is a real nuisance!

Any suggestions? Thanks, David

Worth checking out this - Remove Trend Micro's AV/IS products, etc., see How to uninstall my Trend Micro program using the Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit.

Also see http://thewebatom.net/uninstallers/security-software/, this has a collection of manufactures removal tools, so that should remove any remnants, registry, etc.
