Manual Update .exe
« on: November 15, 2004, 05:28:42 AM »
Hello,

I noticed that many people experience problems trying to Auto. update and I am copping the same, even though all other apps. on my machine have no difficulty at all.

I decided not to fiddle about and manually D\L'd the latest update into Prog.files\Avast4 folder.

Can someone please tell if Avast will see it and take it up, or if I need to install the update .exe manually ?

 Regards.

i think by default your IAVS signatures are set to auto and program updates are set to notify . You can check in settings to confirm :)

Do you still have this problem with version 4.5.523?

Eddy,
I have 4.1 but having read many posts in the forum it seems as though 4.5 is no different re. the Auto. D\L's
difficulties for many.

It appears to be the firewall's fault from what I read but that astounds me because as I mentioned earlier, no other Apps. experience any firewall difficulty re. D\L'g
of their updates.

Right now I have disabled the Auto. Updater and switched to Manual.

What I still need to know is now I have manually D\L'd the 0446-2 update .exe file into the Prog.files\Avast4  folder, will Avast take it up at next boot, or do I need to double click the .exe file to install ?

I'm sorry gin. - you lost me.

Regards.

You need to run the .exe for the update to take place. And I suggest you get the latest version of Avast also. (4.5.523) It has many fixes and new futures.

Thanks very much Eddy,

I will do as you suggest and D\L 4.5 instead.
