unable to inactivateSMTP scan with Avast 4.5
« on: November 14, 2004, 09:43:34 PM »
Just updating from Avast Home 4.1 to 4.5.

I'm using a SMTPS server with TLS and authentication.
So, As Avast doesn't support such SMTPS server, I've inactivated SMTP scan in Avast.

With Avast 4.1, all was working fine, SMTP flux flowing straight from my email client to my smtps server.

With Avast 4.5, SMTP flow seems to be intercepted by Avast, despite the inactivation of SMTP scan (I'm unable to send any mail).

No other change to my settings except Avast Upgrade.

Is it a bug ? Is there a solution ?

It doesn't help me.

On my Email client (thunderbird), my smtp server is defined as smtp.toto.com:25 with TLS and authentication (as if Avast was not existing) and SMTP scan is well unactivated.

But mails don't go flow out...

This was working fine with avast 4.1 but not with avast 4.5

Check the SMTP settings in Avast. If your mail provider requires authentication, setup Avast correctly.

Authentication support is a new future in Avast 4.5

I will look and try, but it doesn't answer to my problem...

I don't want Avast to scan my STMP flow at all, How to configure Avast ?
Unactivating SMTP scan is not enoug/working !!!

Did you disable smtp scanning in both Internet Mail and the Outlook/Exchange provider? It depends on what email client you are using which one is used.

I don't want to usr Avast for SMTP scan because it doesn't handle TLS/SSL.

what do you call "disable scanning in email client" ????
I have never activate such option (and I don(t know where to do so) in my email client 'thunderbird).

And if I'm well reading online help, STMP settings and Authentication are for warnings sent from Avast to my email address, and not related to SMTP scans.

with my settings (smtp server defined as smtp.toto.com:25 with TLS and authentication in Thunderbird (as if Avast was not existing), and SMTP scan unactivated in Avast) :

mails can not flow out if avast resident mail protection is running
but all is working fine when stopping Avast protection.

So for me there is really a bug, Avast continuing to intercept SMTP flow despite unactivation of SMTP scan in the settings   :(

I never said that. I said in the PROVIDERs and they are part of Avast.

Sorry, bad reading of your reply...

Initially (in Avast 4.1) I haven't installed Outlook/eXchange protection in Avast but only internet mail resident protection. And I don't change anything when updating to 4.5

Is it what your call "provider" ?

Yes that a provider. You can see the providers if you open the on-access control panel. Network Shield, Outlook/Exchange, Standard Shield etc.
