Have you seeing this virus SedXPVer.exe Win 32: Malware-gen ???
« on: October 20, 2011, 08:44:59 PM »
Hi!  ;D

You probably have not.

SedXPVer.exe is another False Positive courtesy by Avast! Free Antivirus 6.

I pup in my pants when Avast! Antivirus warned me of this File.

This File is part of Hewlett-Packard Quick Launch. I tested the File in VirusTotal and only Avast! 6.0.1289 and GData 22, flagged this File as a Virus Win 32: Malware-gen.

I extensible researched online and could not find anything pointing to this File as a virus. This False Positive happened on 10/18/11, but today with the latest Virus Definitions 111020-2, Avast! 6 still flags the File as a virus.

I will appreciate your comments.

Thanks.

Compaq Presario R3000
Windows XP SP3

Hi!

No, I did not. I uploaded the file to VirusTotal from the Folder it belongs which is:

C:\Program Files\HPQ\SED\SedXPVer.exe

In my humble opinion, a False Positive can do as much harm as a real virus. Some people when the Antivirus warning pops up, get so scared that react deleting the supposed treat and mess-up the Opereting System badly.

SedXPVer.exe is from year 2000 and is a legitimate File.

Regards,
Avastin.

yes please do upload file to avast as false positive, only reason gdata also flagged it is because 1 of the 2 engines in their av is from avast.

i hope avasts detection rates improve a little.

Hi!

Sorry! for my grammar, it is seen instead of seeing. Also the File is from 2002 instead of 2000.
Avast! Free, latest definitions still flags the File as a virus.

How do I upload the file to Avast! as a False Positive from the Chest???

I did put the File in the Exeptions List so Avast! don't keep annoying me with this False Positive.

Thanks.

Send the sample to avast as a False Positive:
Open the chest and right click on the file and select 'Submit to virus lab...' complete the form and submit, the file will be uploaded during the next update. A link to this topic wouldn't hurt.

Hello again!  :)

I did send the File SedXPVer.exe, to Avast! Labs as a False Positive for review and update of the virus definitions. I think that is the less thing I can do to help make Avast! Free a better Antivirus and for the benefit of all the users. Also since Avast! Is free, is the less I can do to show my gratitude to Avast! for the free antivirus.

One last question: What is the Privacy Policy for uploading a File to Avast! for review?

Thank you so much Avast!
Avastin.
