Avast Web Shield

Hi, why is there an option for "Ask" when a malicious URL is found, when aborting is the only choice?

How do I allow the connection that is actually safe?

An "Allow" option?

Thanks.

well there is a little trick we an use then to investigate more. avast creates a unp123456789tmp file that is only available when sett to ask, this can be uploaded to VT to see if only avast or others also detect

For the greatest majority of people an Allow button would be too dangerous, avast have stayed away from a single click option as it can A) be accidentally clicked or B) clicked when a user incorrectly believes a site to be clean.

The avast web shield has a very high degree of accuracy in its detections. Whilst you can add a site the the web shield exclusions, but personally it is best to report it in the forums for investigation.

You need to browse the Viruses and Worms forum  to see the amount of alerts that people consider false positives only for it to be proven correct.

Sites are being hacked at a phenomenal rate, so a site which may have been considered legit/safe could well be hacked.

Unfortunately VT isn't so clever or rather the fact that only avast detects anything also isn't unusual and may need further investigation at other analysis sites like http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/ or URLVoid
