Would Avast freeze up my computer?
« on: November 15, 2004, 04:17:37 AM »
Hi,
I bought a laptop about a windows XP home edition laptop about a year ago, and it came with norton AV installed on it. Later, I uninstalled norton AV using the add/remove programs. A long time ago, I tried to install Avast on this computer, but when the system rebooted, my computer froze when loading Windows. Yeah, you've heard it before. I know it's a common problem. Come to find out, there were traces of norton AV on my computer that I had to get rid of. I removed all traces of norton AV manually according to the instructions on the symantec site (hopefully there's nothing left). But I'm still wondering if it would be safe to install Avast, because the problem before was tiring and extremely stressful (it took over an hour for my computer to boot so I could uninstall avast). So should I, or shouldn't I? ??? ??? ???

Give the latest version of Avast a try (4.5.523)
There are a lot of fixes when you compare it with the 4.1 version (I presume) you have tried earlier.
