Outlook mail w/4.5.523
« on: November 15, 2004, 12:07:06 PM »
I am using the SP2 firewall (Tipton asked if Zone Alarm), please readdress this problerm with mail connectivity:
Message: "The TCP/IP ocnnection was unexpectedly terminated by your mail server. if this problem persists , contact your LAN Administrator or Internet Provider."
My Email software does not communicate with my ISP through the modem anymore...
(With my outlook 2000) since the avast software automatically updated itself to 4.5.518, TCP/IP does not appear to be sending or receiving any mail(test messages also). I have read the posts, and am getting lost. I use XP Pro, spidermail and spiderguard, have spywareguard running, run SpywareBlaster regularly, DiamondCS wormguard, use DrWeb, XoftSpy 3.45, have run TDS-3, and adaware-6(both find no problems).  I use comcast internet, which does not support Outlook 2000. When I disable avast I can send and receive e-mail. Please advise. Troy
The Icon in taskbar indicating send/recieve activity on my NIC card only relays one time prior to the error message, and all mail is not sent or received from the server.
ISP Says "mail.comcast.net, SMTP.comcast.net" which are unchanged.

What is the status of the Outlook/Exchange avast provider?
"Active" or "Waiting for a subsystem to start"?

I mean while Outlook itself is running.

And while connecting to the mail server, do you see a tiny police beacon icon in the task bar (near the main avast (a) icon)?

Thanks

Tiny police beacon is also there. but Nic card status Icon only toggles one time. Error message stays the same.

That means that the traffic is being filtered by the Internet Mail provider instead of the Outlook/Exchange provider.

Please check the Outlook About box, disabled items. Isn't the avast plugin listed? If so, remove it and restart Outlook, that should solve the problem.

Thanks

Thanks for getting back to me, I dont understand where to look for this: "Please check the Outlook About box, disabled items. Isn't the avast plugin listed?" in Outlook 2000.

Thanks for getting back to me, I dont understand where to look for this: "Please check the Outlook About box, disabled items. Isn't the avast plugin listed?" in Outlook 2000.

Open Outlook (not the Express).
Go to Help Menu
Click on the About submenu
Click on the disabled items and see if avast is there...

I have no disabled items submenu under Help>about, or listing of any disabled items.

Waiting for a subsystem to start.

So, if you have it enable, when you open MS Outlook does the status of the provider does not change?  ???

OK Outlook 2000 does not have this item. It's Outlook XP or 2003 only. Sorry for this.

One more question: when starting Outlook, do you see the avast Outlook plugin splash screen?

Thanks

Please try disabling the Internet Mail provider but not the Outlook/Exchange provider and see if it makes any difference. Thanks.
