Thanks DavidR.

You must mean CookieMonster 1.1.0 which "by default that only allows session cookies". The CM 2.1 just deletes the lot at the end of each session if you ask it to.

I am grateful for all this as it will be added to my "clean" reinstall of FF as soon as I am brave enough ???

Yes I mean CM 1.1 that is the one I use and is much more flexible.

Thank you also for letting me know what I suspected about Chrome. IE is too intrusive.

Will have to take the plunge with a fresh FF install.

You're welcome, but that is my impression, you might find it different. I haven't tried Chrome for a while now, but to my mind they keep trying to sell it as being the fastest browser.

For me speed can only be second to my usability of and requirements of a browser.

I personally haven't used anything except Chrome for over a year.
Browsers are a personal choice and it usually depends on what you
get used too.
I switched from FF and have no regrets but, that's me.

All,

Thanks as always for your helpfulness and patience.

DavidR

I re-installed FF and used its own function for transferring Bookmarks successfully. The Layout is different because I have more or less left it as FF suggests (with less on the upper bars).

I also have CookieMonster 1.1 (screenshot attached) in default mode to replace my compulsive daily use of SAS for managing cookies - is it worth checking "Block 3rd Party Cookies"?

I guess some of us are creatures of habit and it was quite a shock for this one to have to depend on IE for over a day without FF to get my stuff done. What a relief -

Thanks all  :)

I'll do one more SAS sweep to see what IE has left on the system.

I would recommend that you block 3rd party cookies, they are cookies which aren't directly from the site you are visiting. I don't have use 2nd level domain names enabled.

Hint: For your screenshots, don't capture the whole screen, just the active window or enough to display the relevant information. This keeps the file size down and opens the image when clicked within the opst not in a new window. To capture the active window - when the window that you want to capture is the active one, press the Alt key plus the Prt Scr (print screen) key together. That captures the active window (not the whole screen) and copies it into the clipboard.

David R

Double thanks.

CookieMonster - useful tip, reducing clutter.

Re Screenshots - v-important to me (hardly a whizz), e.g. teleworking with an employer in distant Hamburg with whom I have hardly conversed and (incredibly) do not have a competetent IT staff. My work depends on the software that they have licensed me to use (Wordfast - I think we have had this discussion) - so the need for sending accurate screenshots.

 :)

If screenshots are very important, I can't live without them, especially useful on the forums. So long ago I bought an image capture application SnagIt (now on v10) and that is very flexible and saves huge amounts of time.

There are free versions of image capture software, but I have never found one as good as SnagIt.

This one is quite good, not as powerful as SnagIt, but it's free. ;)

HPY,
You might enjoy the simplistic way in which you can capture and post your screenshots

Not ideal if as you say "Re Screenshots - v-important to me" you want something that makes it as easy as possible, not having to copy to the clipboard and then paste to paint and save as an image file. SnagIt makes this a breeze and has great annotation and effects tools, video capture of how to carry out a function, etc. Much easier in many cases to having to explain it.

Whilst the free tools are adequate for most people, if you regularly use screenshots the cost is far outweighed by the time saved.

In Vista you can use the Snipping Tool.
