bone to pick with avast
« on: October 26, 2011, 02:15:17 PM »
why do avast! Internet Security users receive priority virus and program updates (up to four times faster than our free antivirus)?

i mean sure they paid, and for that they get additional features and protection, but it shouldnt mean
that avast! free users get priority updates up to 4 times slower, putting them at risk for the duration.

of course i dont know where avast pro users stand, are they like ais in update speed,or avast free,or maybe somewhere in between?

That only means that you can set the time between automatic updates lower, than in the free version. ;)

you mean the time between automatic update attempts?
that doesnt seem to be true, even in free version you can set interval as low or high as you want.

1. Yep.
2. Sure you can set it, but it wouldn't work. ;)
The default for the free version is 240 minutes, but you can set it as low as 120 minutes. Everything lower will bring up the default setting again.

It's not slower. The difference is on the limit of automatic updates.
The minimum intervals currently are like this:
Free AV: 120 minutes ( = 2 hours)
Pro AV, IS: 15 minutes
The best things in life are free.

I doubt the risk is much greater for the up to two more per day updates.  On the other side if it, I think the product is worth paying for so I do expect more than the free version--though I don't think it matters all that much 99% of the time.

You get all updates with the free version as well. ;)

If you're willing to pay for the product, you should certainly get something extra and you do.
If you use the free version, you're saving some money and still get more than you do with other
free AV's. I have no clue why alpha1 has a gripe ???   I certainly don't and I'm very happy to be getting
all this protection for FREE.  :)

Hi alpha1,

Why do you complain? Get an update eealier, you could also get a FP earlier and you'd have to wait longer for it to be repaired. You always can look at the cup half full and half empty. Be glad a product like avast cannot be found elsewhere, and you are the one that has it on that machine of yours,

The OP was complaining because he/she misunderstood avast!'s "4 times faster" wording. The OP thought that if AIS users received an update at say 1:00pm, then free users wouldn't receive it till 5:00pm. That's all.
