Any trick to prevent X-Antivirus in outgoing email?
« on: October 26, 2011, 11:22:32 PM »
Is there any means of configuring Avast 6.0. to scan outgoing email but NOT insert the X-Antivirus & X-Antivirus-Status headers in the email message?

A little picture - open Avast and select shields
Select mail shield
Select expert settings
Select behaviour
Remove the ticks as shown

Unfortunately not, the headers aren't controlled by the avastUI, that is only for the clean note insertion into the email body.

Asyn,

It is that I don't need to transmit such details in the emails I send to people and would prefer not to.

Lol, never knew this, using web mail as I do.....but that would annoy me, albeit in a kind of trivial way, being turned into an advert is kind of tacky.

It would be nice to see a config to turn it off, should I ever wish to use it.

Advert? It's hidden in the e-mail headers, next to other information nobody will ever see unless they check the raw e-mail format somehow (and the same way is used by various antispam filters, for example, so it's nothing special).

I agree it isn't much of an advert since it isn't in a typically viewed header or the body.  I think it is simply TooMuchInformation about the (protection) software you use.

Nevermind, I missed the fact he was speaking of the header.  (looking back, its mentioned twice, don't know how I missed it ::) :-[)

Where are those X-Antivirus & X-Antivirus-Status headers? I've checked the source of a message sent by Thunderbird but I didn't find them. Perhaps is it because I'm using Avast Free?

It has nothing to do with version, they are there, if you scan in/outbound emails then there will be an entry in the header information, see image of an old email in my thunderbird inbox. Having opened the email, just choose View, Message Source and if it has been scanned the information should be there, note the outbound and inbound entries (I copied the email to me also).

[EDITED]

My bad :) I only checked emails in the "sent" forder (emails I sent to other people).
I've just checked an email I sent to myself and I found the Avast entries in the header information.

As always thank you so much for the prompt reply, David.
