I do not read the avast blog on my XP Pro system as it causes IE to crash!  :o
The avast blog works fine with Chrome for me on my XP Pro system. :)
It doesn't work in Windows 7  or Windows 8 and Chrome.

@bob,

... Even if you try disabling the specific script Scott mentioned?

I personally don't like using noscript in Chrome.

NotScript..!! ;) (NoScript is for FF only..!)

Of course, and I thank you for it. I'm just saying that your post is one potential way of workaround, but not a real solution. My comment was not discarding or contradicting yours, but more aimed to Avast Team (or whoever manages the blog pages), rather than to you :).

Don't worry, I understand what you mean...! ;)

Well that, given the location of the slow script not being on the avast blog but Facebook https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js, it is outside of the avast site developers responsibility. Other than not use that facebook element script (with whatever impact that might have), not much else that they can do.

See, the funny thing is, that I finally experienced this on a machine with IE8

Every time I reload the page I get the script message...

I added that js file to the "Restricted sites" option in the Internet Options -> Security tab and guess what?

No more script message.

Isn't this fun...

 ;D You "read" correctly what I really meant, if indeed that script is the one and only that is causing this problem. So, it is still on the hands of Avast Team  ;D .

@Scott, I performed a little test. With hXXps://connect.facebook.net (replace "XX" with "tt") in the restricted sites as you suggested, it is working. The blog page has other bugs, but it's at least working. When removing the site from the restricted sites list, I indeed receive the message and IE gets unstable (which is what bothers me much more than receiving the message).

@Avast Team (Julia maybe ??? ) : This and other bugs in the blog pages need to be corrected!!!. Whether you (Avast Software) would want to request some changes from Facebook's webmasters and / or programmers, I personally don't really care (and you, Avast Software, shouldn't wait for any response from FB). Whatever FB does with this script, doesn't really matter. For the good of Avast Blog pages, Avast Software PR, and the blog's readers, this script should be suspended / avoided immediately, until and if FB corrects it to be more compatible and stable.

I'd like to thank Scott again for the provided accurate info  8) . I don't use Chrome, but I guess there is some method so to achieve the same effect.

Using Chrome on the blog also work but,
if you read my original post, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=87371.msg702109#msg702109 you'll notice that the problem
I mentioned pertains to the post that contains the actual story.
Click on read more  and you'll find out that it does not "load fine".  :(

Our web guy Richard tried to duplicate this error on multiple versions of IE and also on multiple PC's. Could you please give us more info? what version of IE you were running, what version of windows, which page he/she visits etc.

Thanks,

Julia,

I will assume you are asking about the OP. If this assumption is incorrect, please let me know.

The picture in the OP was taken from:

Windows Vista x32 Home Basic with SP2;
IE8;
1 GB RAM, which is also shared for video memory for the built in video (no additional memory card);
Avast Free (the exact Avast version was the latest stable version available at that time).

Other users reporting the same problem might be using different systems (read the topic).

The workaround (credit goes to Scott, in this same topic) is:

In IE8 -> Internet Options -> Security Tab -> Restricted Sites -> add the site:
Code: [Select]
https://connect.facebook.net.

If you or Richard need more info or some additional test, please let us know.
