Am helping 2 people install Avast, 1 on ME and 1 on Win 98. Neither will update. Says they aren't online when they are. Help, Warren

wschoon, do they use a firewall? Which one?
Do the firewalls allow avast.setup to connect the internet for updating?
Which are they settings into avast > Settings > Update (Advanced)?
