Avast find trojan I can't find in webpages
« on: November 11, 2011, 02:35:52 AM »
I am working on my wife's WordPress-based website using ProPhoto 4 (http://www.megapixie.com) and the following pages are being blocked by Avast: http://www.megapixie.com/blog and http://www.megapixie.com/portrait-pricing.  Can someone please help me find these "viruses" that I can't seem to find, if they're actually there?

Thanks so much in advance for the help!

Matt

If you can post a screenshot of just the avast alert pop-up as I have visited both the links using firefox8 and no alert. I haven't tried IE as I don't have enough trust in it when checking possibly suspect sites.

I haven't gone rummaging (browsing) around trying to get an alert as it is now a little after 2:15am and I'm calling it a night.

I checked these two pages and nothing popped up.

Avast definitions are 111110-1, version 6.0.1289 Free.

Out-of-date definitions responsible for this?  Avast! has been doing quite a bit of work lately in removing definition based detections that are false positive.

I checked with both IE8 and FF 8.0.  Both were sandboxed when run.

I rather doubt that as when I checked the two links I would have been using that VPS version, now the latest VPS version is 111111-0 (a pretty memorable number the 11th of the 11th of the 11th, lest we forget).

I don't think that running them sandboxed would make any difference, but mine wasn't sandboxed.

If you got an alert are you able to capture a screenshot of just the avast alert pop-up and attach it to a post ?
- When you click the Reply button, there is an Additional Options link, this expands the options to attach a file, that can be an image file or a text file (.log or .txt).

- How to create the screen capture to attach, when the window that you want to capture is the active one, press the Alt key plus the Prt Scr (print screen) key together. That captures the active window (not the whole screen) and copies it into the clipboard.

- If you have an image editing application you can use that to save the clipboard copy to an image (.gif, .jpg or .png image format). If you don't have an image editing application you can use windows paint it is basic but should serve the purpose.

Thanks everyone.  In the meantime, one step I took was to download the whole site via FTP and test it on this side.  Avast found the trojan in one of the cache pages, so I deleted all of the cache pages from the server and that seemed to take care of the problem.  For now....  So now my question is how can I lock down the site to prevent this from happening again.  Any thoughts would be incredibly appreciated.
