ABPP Admin Console error in sql configuration
« on: November 11, 2011, 06:51:19 PM »
Good evening, :)

I have a problem with the installation of Avast Administration Console of A.B.P plus:
when i try the connection test button(from sql setting's tab) the installation program give me this error :

"Impossible to test the database connection. The specified service does not exist as an installed service"

The program find the correct name of sql server, in this case "SERVER" but the error remains even if I change the authentication parameter .
I have a sbs 2003 sp2 system with installed "sql server 2008 R2" and I chose, in prior page, to use a resident sql server (and not download and install sql server 2008 R2 express).

Someone can help me please? :-[

No you must use the SQL 2008 R2.
You cannot use your resident SQL 2000...

Try to uninstall the SQL 2008 or permit to avast to download and install the SQL required...
Initially I've the same problem with the first Abp version, I resolved it by downloading and installing manually the SQL 2008 R2 EE...

.. or try to create manually and select an istance named SERVER\AVASTSBC

Thanks Giorgio for your advice!
OK, tomorrow I try to uninstall the sql server and install the avast's sql.
But I am thinking an other idea, it's possible keep the default instance of  sql server 2000 and install avast sql( sql server 2008 r2 express) in an another instance ? the two instances do not conflict between them?
(I have a disk clone with the original configuration with only sql server 2000 without avast and sql server 2008)
bye

Yes you can,
In my server I use SQL 2005 for some database, and Avast use without problems the SQL 2008 R2 EE
Then you can continue to use your SQL 2000 for your default istance.

Hi marco1981,
there is a known bug in current version causing problems while testing DB connection (in installer) on non-english windows. If you use default DB mode or if you are absolutely sure the provided settings are correct, you can proceed the installation even without successful DB connection test. The mentioned problem will be solved in next bugfix update, which should come out in a week or two. Thx. Jan.

Or you can follow the instructions in this article - https://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=1002&nav=0,1,23,654
.. and install the Console with the SQL SA account.

Dmitriy
