Jekku and craigb,

could you please try adding the following mask:

last*.dat

to the File System Shield's exclusions, and see if it makes any difference?

Thanks
Vlk
Done, thanks Vlk i'll keep an eye on it for the next couple of days.

Me too, thanks Vlk!

@Vlk

That didn't help. This is quite difficult to test since it doesn't happen every shut down/reboot, but I noticed that when I rebooted my computer after automatic def update and before the next update check, I got the event log error despite that last*.dat exclusion setting. I didn't get the error after that when I rebooted several times.

So, it could be that this happens only when computer is rebooted /shut down after automatic def update and before the next check. I don't know...

Instead of adding more bells and whistles how about improving the slipping detection rates? For the last several months I've been watching them go downhill over at av-comparatives.org.

Detection rates are OK  ;D given the number of FP being so low with Avast 8)

Am I right that you changed the maximum size of log files to 32KB?
If so, this is related to the problem.

Thanks
Vlk

Are you referring to the on-demand or "real-world" tests?

BTW we have quite high expectations of a big gun called "version 7".
Hopefully, it will change your perception little bit.

Thanks

I only changed the log file size after the first crash but it was still set that way when i had the second crash which i sent to you, the other issue with windows not shutting down properly was there before and after changing the log size though.
Iv now set the log size back to default.

@craigb and Vlk, My apologies for interrupting your conversation.

I don't think the 32KB limit "alone" should be the cause of that problem. My GUESS is based not because I have some real input, but because other users have that same setting at 32KB under 6.0.1352 but no crashes.

So in case it has some relation, then something additional might have some part in it.

If craigb won't have the same type of crash with the default setting, then some testing (or playing around) with that setting might be needed anyway.

Well, OTOH, I can be completely wrong :(.

Just got it again and this was after changing the logs back to default, not much info is given though as it happens on shutdown so there is no crash dump

The previous system shutdown at 2:44:13 AM on ‎11/‎17/‎2011 was unexpected.

Vlk let me know if there may be something in any of the logs which i can post.

Whole Product Dynamic Tests.

http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart2.php

Monthly avast! detection in this section has been going down.  In Sept it was ranked 13th out of 17 programs and had been falling for months for some reason.

Having said that, I'm anxious for the new 7 when that comes out and am looking forward to renewing my subscription for another year.

My apologies if I missed this already being discussed a long the line, but my WebRep is not working in FF 8.  Possibly I'm the only one.  It works in Chrome (which I don't use).

It shows as being installed and I uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin but to no avail.  It's not even listed as disabled in "Add ons."
