Hello,
I scanned my
8GB
USB flash memory with Avast 6; no threat detected but Avast showed
20GB
!!! scanned.
I copied my USB flash memory into a folder on my PC; scanned it and still no threat detected by Avast showed 20GB scanned!!!
How can that be?
Thank you

Avast might be temporarily expanding some archives and scanning their contents too, according to the files you are scanning and the relevant Avast settings.

I'm a little late getting in here today, but ...
If your scan includes archives, you'll probably also see that avast is reporting a larger number of files (items?) scanned, for the same reason.
