Problem in the network transfer rate.
« on: November 16, 2011, 06:17:57 PM »
Good Afternoon, I have the license for Avast Internet Security and bought an LG-A520 notebook recently.
When I install avast my upload transfer rate drops dramatically over the network.
Without avast with a rate of 1MB/s to 30MB/s and with avast installed with only the rate of 5KB/s to 20KB/s.
Download rate are normal.
Remembering that I'm talking about file transfer via local network and not on the internet.
Another detail is that even disabling Avast does not solve the slow, being necessary to uninstall avast to improve the rate

My adapters are:
Networking: Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)
Wireless: Ralink RT3090 Wireless LAN Card BGN

S.O.: Windows Home Premium - Service Pack 1

Thank´s

Have you uninstalled the AV that would have come preinstalled in your notebook ?

Do not come any anti-virus installed on the notebook.
There was only one option may install Norton, but I refused.

Thats strange as they always come with an AV i thought but you have the option to accept the trial usually.

AV did not come, Norton had the option of a desktop shortcut to download and install it, but alas not accepted and installed Avast.
Has installed Windows Defender. Could it be related?

Tanks.

I would still run the Norton removal tool just to be sure    ;)

run and reboot - http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/
when done you just drag and drop the tool in the recyle bin

I run both tools available and reboot, but had no effect.
I'll try again after reinstalling Avast to see if these changes solve.
I do at night, because now I'm at work.
Any more suggestions?
Something with Service Pack 1?

Tanks.

Hi,

did the rates drop right after the installation of avast? If not, did you try a clean reinstall of avast! with the uninstall tool?

Maybe there is also some filtering driver active on the network card, which slows down the network connection, when working together with avast! filtering driver. You can check in the settings of your network connection, which filtering drivers are active.

Hi,
Yes, the drop only occurs when I install avast and only when I upload, the download is normal.
I uninstalled avast and downloaded to the site and again the same problem occurs.
It has no filter on the devices.
I'm thinking it's something related to Windows or service pack.
this weekend I'll have more time, going back a picture of some weeks ago and see if you encounter the same problem and if you need to restore the original factory.
The bad thing is that I have the license of avast 2 years and wanted to use it, but I see I'll have to put another anti-virus.

Thanks.

Hi,

any progress on this topic? I was just faced with the same behavior.
Download from network data storage is OK (11MB/s in my case, corresponds well to used 100M LAN).
Upload before Avast installation was OK (the same speed 11MB/s).

After the Avast installation the upload speed dropped by factor 500 to ~20kB/s.

Any ideas how to solve it?

Asus laptops come preinstalled with Trend Micro, have you uninstalled this first and then run the Trend removal tool before installing avast? you'll find the removal tool here http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ ( Please read the info link first before running removal tool )

Hello
I would like to say that I have the same problem with Avast Internet Security ver. 7.0.1426 (with original key).
With installed Avast i have upload speed 27 KB/Second with uninstall Avast i reach 11MB/second that is my optimal ethernet speed.
I would like to say that internet speed download and upload is OK.

PC configuration is ASUS N76VZ with:
Ethernet card: Atheros AR8161/8165 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)
Wireles card: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230
On both card are ethernet upload very slow
Server is a pentium based pc with 2 network nic with ClearOS based software.

On the network i have 5 more pc with windows 7 (x64) OS and the same Avast Internet security (with original key) with intel or nvidia ethernet nic and is workin fine.

Disabling modules don't resolve the problem, only when I uninstall Avast from the PC upload start to worko normally.
