BIG problem with internet mail.
« on: November 16, 2004, 12:34:47 AM »
Hi, I am a new user of avast home edition. I have a big problem to configure mail protection. I use The Bat! 3.01…
I allready install a bat plugin, and in bat pref. I choose the avast protection option.
Ok, I want to use internet mail protection, and I configure that part of avast.
Next. I go to mail protection wizard and use manual configuring.
In mail acount protection window I cant choose anything, I mean there are no acount to chose.
Without this configuring internet mail providing shows o scaned count.
I am not so good informed about those stuff, but I like to use avast in future so please help me how to configure this, please.

My smtp      smtp.ptt.yu
      Pop3      pop3.ptt.yu

Sorry, my english is not so good.
Thanks a lot

Why? Do you use any other program than The Bat?

Do you have Windows XP or 98? The email configuration is different depending on the operational system...

Hi there

speaking from experience with windows98 and with Avast alot lately I have to share some information.

I suggest going to your email account first and setting up in their your pop server and smtp server.

Then run the mail configuration of Avast.  Choose the manual setting if you don't have aol.  Other wise choose automatic setup that is my suggestion.  Or use it if you have Eudora, or Outlook Express.
In manual setting Avast outta scan your computer for email client as I understand.  It will find your information from email client and put outbound and inbound to scan.  Check both boxes and go through the rest of the options and leave them as they are.

That is my suggestion.  If you really wanna know ask Igor and Vlk or some other Evangilist (Avast).

I gave what I been doing on my with Mail configuration with Avast with Win 98se.

laterzzzzzzzz

Bokaco, the Bat! plugin works differently from the generic Internet Mail Provider. It uses the Bat! programming interface and scans mails when the Bat! has them in it's hands. So there is no need to configure Internet Mail Provider via PopWizard as you would have to do it on Win98 with other mail clients.

Try to send your self a test EICAR virus and see if avast! catchs it. http://www.eicar.com/anti_virus_test_file.htm.

Lukas.

Nothing to solve Your problem, but I would recommend to use avast mail protection as second shield against viruses - usually the different antivir progs have different respond times for new viruses and it's always a good idea to have more than one protection.  If the first misses ist then theres a good chance that the second catches it.
I for myslef have mail server protection too, but have used always a client based solution as second shield.

Just my thoughts
