avast doesn't kill infected attachments
« on: December 01, 2004, 05:01:26 PM »
hi,

I have got the latest version of avast while using win xp and Outlook Express. Unfortunately avast recognises infected email attachments and yelling "a virus have been found!" But it doesn't delete them - although I adjusted avast like that in the settings. What's wrong?

In addition, I must tell you, that avast does not kill infected attachments automatically - like it should do because of my setting within the preferences.

So, what exactly are your settings? Also, do you have Home or Pro version of avast?

Outlook/exchange

or

internet mail?

I use the Home edition 4.5 and Outlook Express. I used the configuration in the outlook/exchange section.

I switched on "delete infected messages immediately". I don't know the exact expression in English, because my version of avast is in German.  And I switched on "check all incoming and outgoing mails".

The Outlook/Exchange provider is for Outlook, not Outlook Express.

If you use Outlook Express, you must configure the Internet mail provider.

And there are some other numbers than just 4.5.
Latest version is 4.5.546.
Right click the blue ball and choose "about"

You should configure the Internet Mail provider.
You can only 'send file to Chest' and not delete them automatically (this is only in Professional version). Choose Silent Mode and the answer 'No'.

Left click the 'a' blue icon.
It will start On-access protection

Click on Standard Shield and then on Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and select Silent Mode and the default answer No.

Do the same for the Internet Mail provider and Outlook/Exchange plugin.
