did you run the AVG removal tool and reboot ?
http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/


Then remove avast with this http://www.avast.com/en-eu/uninstall-utility
reboot and install again

Tried the other uninstall method, reinstalled clean and still unable to see scan options or even scan c drive when I right-click it...   :(
