no AV scan Webmail.....well it is scanned as normal web traffic
only if you use a mail client and download the mail to your comp the mail shield will scan

Are other mail shield features active and working correctly? (meaning, is it just and only the count number, or mail shield is not working at all?)

There is no graph,as i would call it,like all the other shields except p2p and im shield. It does say the protective status is running
The counter used to work on previous versions but for some reason it is stuck on O

When you said "there is no graph", I guess you meant that the line of the graph is at a permanent zero.

I don't use mail shield at all, so I cannot confirm for you this behaviour. Maybe someone else can.

The question is if the mails are really scanned and the problem is the counter, or the mails are not scanned at all, (hence the counter is correct, but the shield is not performing any activity, even if it is activated).

If it used to work then you must have disabled the security SSL-TLS in your client ( Windows live Mail ) which is fine if your using avast to scan your mail, next step is to try a repair of avast and reboot to see if you get the function back, if it still doesn't work then i would suggest uninstalling the mail shield reboot and reinstall followed with another reboot.

I am sure mail shield is working.
I just looked at the security report.
It says  208 emails scanned in the last 30 days

I did try your other suggestion but i regret to say there is no difference.
I am still on O

"The last 30 days" is not important, as you were using the previous version of Avast. You would need to send an email and receive another one (not the same) and then check the log in the current situation.

10.7.2

I had to turn my mail shield off. I could send but couldn't receive e-mail. Mac Mail 5.1

Turned off the Webshield because I couldn't open anything. Safari 5.1.1

Now I can't find my external HD when I plug it in.
