Windows keep crashing before and after removing malware/virus
« on: December 04, 2011, 10:08:17 AM »
Hello to everyone who see this

My computer is a laptop with windows 7, i7 , 4 Gb of ram, and a 310/330M graphics card.

The problem is, the whole pc hangs and freezes one by one starting from the program i am using.

Lets say,
i have a Visual web developer 2010 express and a firefox(latest version)
i just use them normally (say coding a website )
and suddenly,VWD freezes(not responding)
okay, maybe it's just too slow,
as everything else is working and my mouse is fine,
so i switch to firefox and browse,
as soon as i click firefox and try to work on it,
Firefox does not respond,
this type of not responding is not the same as the traditional one
as the window will not (fade out nor display
[XXX is not working.... what you want to do....restart/close/wait...])
Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't react either,
and finally my whole pc does not give any reaction except my mouse.....
i have to long press the on button to shut down the pc.....

apparently, my anti virus failed(sophos)
as i have always been using avast on my old machine[not infected],
i installed the internet security trial on this one[which i am talking about]
i ran a full scan and detected one virus/malware....oh...god i forgot what it was.....
but the problem still remains....

getting into processes
i found out that my windows doesn't have windows defender!!!(isn't it with windows 7?)
and also no firewall enabled, when i try to enable it/use initial settings..., it says that it can't (0x80070424)
i went to services.msc
i could not find anything like security center or windows defender !!!??

and in some files,  as soon as i click on the icon, the window which shows the file freezes and i have to restart explorer.exe
the known path is the 'temp' folder next to windows under C, i found 2 xml files
one with 'temp.xml' and another '_temp.xml'
i can't even see its property[the window freezes once i selected them]
but i have to mention, avast internet security deleted the virus recently from the same directory

i tried to monitor the pc with the windows displayed after i pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del
my CPU is only at 2% ,ram at 40% which is normal (i think so...)
it wasn't demanding at all...

now, antivirus does not detect any virus(yet lol) on my pc.....but..

i now have to work with my firefox in the sand box of avast internet security
it freezes less, and even if it crashed, i can still close it.
but if run normally, firefox shows the not responding symptoms again

i fear that my system has corrupted files, are there any tools/directions for me to restore the windows system back to the basic form ? i did system restore but those didn't work....(safemode and non safe mode....) i really don't wanna reinstall the whole system unless its my last resort...
i am now working near the deadline of my assignment, and i can still merely work with Visual web developer, but i really want my pc to be in good condition as i truly believe that such symptoms will get worse over time......right?

oh... please help me....i am in like a panic mode right now....i can't sleep well when these problems are with my pc.....

Thank you for reading such long post too...
