Web Shield Proxy Default Port 8080 Not A Good Choice
« on: December 07, 2011, 07:31:36 PM »
Hi guys.

I see that the web shield is listening on 8080/tcp to provide the local proxy.

This isn't a good choice as 8080 is a very common choice for conventional proxies that users might want to run for other purposes.

I prefer the default used on the Windows version i.e. 12000 + the original <1024 service port number.

Cheers.

PS: If I manually edit /Library/Application Support/Avast/proxy/com.avast.proxy.conf [http] PORT=8080 to, say, PORT=12080 and restart will all the web shield proxy server and its transparent redirector pick up on this?

Yes. The proxy listen port can be configured this way in the configuration file. Just edit the file and send the proxy a SIGHUP signal or switch the webshield on/off in the preferences.

Thank you. I'll try again.
