What happens if you remove "mail.ptdprolog.net" from the line
DefaultPopServer=mail.ptdprolog.net

are you able to receive mail than?
If not restore the line ofcourse.

Didn't work.

We won't give up ;)
Under the section [MailScanner]
add a line saying :
AutoRedirect=0

So that it looks like
[MailScanner]
AutoRedirect=0

Try to receive mail again.
If it fails leave the line there for now and first run ashPopWz.exe from the Avast folder.
Try to receive the mail again.

If it still fails remove
AutoRedirect=0

haven't tried any of the suggestions, because i had been busy working. I wont have time until next weekend. So I will start trying the options then. I hope that in the mean time limelite will be able to solve his problem, so that i can solve mine to.

thanks anyway.

Sorry, I already gave up in frustration and installed a competitior's program.  I'm hoping by the next major update this issue is cleared up.  I ran out of patience and time to keep installing/reboot, uninstall/reboot, download, reinstall/reboot, edit/reboot over and over and over again.  I've been dealing with this since last Friday and I'm done messing with it.

Thanks for the help though, Eddy.

Sorry to hear that limelite. :'( The as you call it "unintstall/reboot/install" and ofcourse the changes in between them sure would tell me (us) more and are definatly helping to find a solution/bug fix.  But if you decide not to continue with it (which is your decission and I respect ofcourse) than it is your choice.

Personally I am convinced that it will be solved very soon. And I hope you will get back to using Avast. My personall opinion is that the people from Alwil deserve it. Looking at the way they deal with problems, the way they give support to the users and such.

Anyway, I would say... Stick around here and keep following the developments.

hddboer,
I am just like you just a user of Avast. But when the 4.5 beta cam out I had a problem with the mail when Opera was used. Sofar I was the only one who reported the problem (as far as I know) but Alwil solved it with a little help (testing/trying things) from my site. Same goes for the way Avast dealed with RAR archives. Again it was me who discovered it and tested/tried. So I am pretty sure that your problem will be solved too. Just have faith and patience.

Off-topic, but I can imagin what it is to have a product and give support/try to solve all issues for lots of people. (refering to the HijackThis analyzer I created) It's not easy and takes a lot of time/effort, but I never give up and nor wil Alwil, that I know for sure ;)

Eddy,

I also switched, had to invest to much effort to get the program working. Thanks for your effort and time.

Maybe when a new release is introduced i'll try avast again.

Kind regards,

Hielke

This is firewall related... Which one are you using?
Can you found the dump files of the system, or firewall or avast and post it for analysis?

I don't know where to find or what a dump file is to post.  I'm using Windows Firewall that came with Service Pack 2 for Windows XP Pro.  Even when disabling the firewall, downloads were still blocked.

Is the dump file this user.dmp file in the Dr Watson folder?
