Avast interent xp32 event viewer
« on: December 09, 2011, 11:41:21 PM »
I was helped by essexboy with a virus and said I would sign up for Avast internet on both my xp32 and windows 7  Both in different location only used by me.   This morning I paid for 2 years 2 laptops Avast Internet.

Paid version was downloading to my xp32 and I got to thinking I wonder how I get it to download to my windows 7 at another location later.  Both xp32 and Windows7 connect to Internet using a UL600 flash drive modem I carry from xp32 to windows 7 and back again.   So i called number on screen while it was downloading.
I spent like 52 minutes talking to India using Bomgar to search my computer for errors.   Tech support found like 3500 errors in my event viewer system going back weeks and said he could fix it for $169.00 per year or I could go to Geeksquad and they could do it for $249.00.

During those 52 minutes I could hear every once in a while cheering in background.
Whats with cheering and could it be others agreeing to signing up for $169.00 per year and some additional reward to person who sold it?  I don't know, but I backed out and asked to have my 2 years subscription canceled.  I was given a cancellation order#
I downloaded Avast free once again and installed it over Avast internet.

Whats causing Event Viewer to show errors, where are those errors coming from and if I can fix it I'll go back and signup for those 2 years for my xp32 and Windows7?

Thanks.

Let me make this clear the only time to worry about the event viewer is if there is nothing there...  This is an area designed by MS to assist with trouble shooting nothing else it does not mean a broken or infected system..

I have about 80 in mine and this is a new system ...

Iyogi please grow up and be honest

Let's go for parts.

You can download the trial version of AIS at the web site of Avast, and then, after installation and reboot, add your license to turn it into a complete (not trial) edition of AIS.

As long as the license is used simultaneously in only 2 systems, you could even use it 1 year with your current system, and then change the whole system for a new one and start with a new stable trial version again. Just adding the license file, you turn it into a complete full AIS, always until the same date (no matter if you use it or not, the expiration date of the license file will be the same).

For the 3500 events issue, it has nothing to do with avast. It is just iYogi's issue. Do you want / need iYogi? Do you have any problems in your system? It's up to you.

@ avastment
I can fix all those errors in the event viewer for nothing, just right click on the particular log and select clear all events.

Seriously, if you don't get a physical windows error displayed to the the majority of the content of the event viewer are low level, Information or Warning and very few Errors. Even the errors unless they generate a hard error displayed to the screen I wouldn't even worry about those either.

I keep my nose out of the logs as for the most part there is nothing in there particularly useful to a user.

So as ady4um said unless you have a specific problem I would discus that here and stay away from iYogi.

Just had a quick look at my event viewer, new system in October.  Just tweaked to my requirements

Looking at this according to Iyogi my system is a disaster area in excess of 4,000 errors - oh my gawd  ;D ;D ;D

Oh my god, I have just looked at the event viewer in my win7 netbook 'call the bomb squad' my system is about to blow up. It is almost 1 year old bought in December last year.

In all there are 34MB of log data tens of thousands of entries, the only problem is it is running just fine, I must call iyogi to put it right for me...

Sod it I have just saved myself $169 by clearing all the logs and the only real benefit in all of this is I have saved 34MB of hard disk space; big deal when I have a 250GB HDD in this netbook.

EDIT typo

Just a comment. IMHO, deleting logs is NOT a *real* suggestion, but a sarcastic one only.

Whether with CCleaner or manually, whether in the registry, in simple text files or in Event Viewer, sometimes logs are useful. Moreover, not each and every line / entry in a log is telling you about an error.

You may delete logs, but I would suggest leaving at least some last period of entries in there, so if some real problem is logged, it can be identified by the repetitive appearance (as an example).
