resource hog
« on: December 12, 2011, 11:55:49 PM »
in last month on every computer i installed avast, just simply the program became a resource hog.
Not to mention with file system scan always increase the system partition fragmentation with the same rate like the system itself.
Any clue?

What i forget to mention windows 7 enterprise x64, windows 7 Home premium x86 same effect.
Different hardware same effect. Disabling the avast file system scanner gives back all the speed like before.

I dont know what comparatives say but i see what does with my systems.
This win7 what i use is 4 months old. and its like granny.
Every time when i check my fragmentation i have 200+ fragments from avast databases and logs.
So what says then the database? Repair install not helps.

I don't know about resource hog, but the additional fragmentation of those particular files is not going to give you more problems. Since the definitions (database) files and logs are re-written (or at least, more info is written so the file is a little bit bigger), then the additional fragmentation is only natural, and even helpful.

Agree, but i defragment them 2 times a week. Slow down of the file system big impact on pc performance. Every file opened and even if 5 Mb when got scanned the computer hangs for seconds.
After new installation of the avast in 2 days this problems comes up.   On system start up i have to wait 2 minutes because avast scanning all opened programs (usually i have just the most necessary). After that i still waiting for the system to be responsible and i get the avast got updated message. Something is bad.

What AV did you previously use on these systems and how did you remove them ? did you run a removal tool to get rid of leftovers ?

Have you changed any of the default setting's in avast ?
