Which is why I always state to reboot after the repair, Reply #1 above.

As I said, I don't know if my comment applies to this case in particular. Most users helping simply mention "do a repair / fix and follow instructions", while the instructions are not always requesting the necessary reboot.

Moreover, users tend not to report back, and as what happens in this case, usually the report is not accurate enough so to confirm that the steps were followed correctly and completely.

In this case, the user has not mentioned "rebooting immediately even before testing" at all in the feedback. Maybe he did, and maybe he didn't. The "fix it" action in Avast GUI is one classic example of this lack of rebooting. When the problem is solved, fine. But when the user's feedback says a simple "it doesn't work", it is sometimes very hard to identify what exactly is not working. In those cases, we need more specific feedback, which starts from more specific instructions (which you did in this topic, but the user didn't IMHO).
