Avast Antivirus Program has been stopped
« on: December 23, 2011, 02:36:27 PM »
Windows XP user here,

I've recently encountered a bizarre problem with avast pro telling me I'm unsecured. I followed the steps of several older threads and nothing has seemed to work to fix the error. I have tried to repair it, which it tells me that there's an error with the packaging. I tried uninstalling it in safemode and reinstalling. I searched with Malwarebytes and everything showed up clean:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.51.2.1300

The moment I noticed avast had turned off I saw in my task manager that cscss.exe was at 200+mb of memory usage. After restarting and doing a system restore this memory usage problem has stopped, but now it seems with avast not working I may have a virus on my hand I have no idea how to get rid of (I trusted avast never to turn off while browsing, this seems to be what caused the issue). I've attached a hijackthis log if anyone is interested in it. I'm really in a bind here, please help?

It is best not to run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in Safe mode.

Plus you have IObit installed and should be removed!
O23 - Service: Advanced SystemCare Service (AdvancedSystemCareService) - IObit - E:\Program Files\IObit\Advanced SystemCare 4\ASCService.exe

Was that program malicious? I had no idea!

Anyway, I did not realize I should not run malwarebytes in safemode. It's just that no exe's would run in the regular mode at the time (they are running now, just loading very slowly). I think I have got myself in a lot of trouble. :(

I've deleted Advancedcare, should I run another hijackthis after I re-run malwarebytes?

IObit may have been guilty of some questionable business practices Advancedcare is however not
a malicious program.  :(

Well I deleted it just to be safe, I never really used it anyway. Malwarebytes Scan is still running, I will update again if it finds anything. Thank you guys for the help so far! :)
