Hard Drive failure
« on: April 27, 2005, 11:34:38 PM »
I've just installed Avast after it was recommended to me. Result? My computer became useless...
When first scanning (blue screen before XP boot) it jammed on a file. So I aborted the scan (ESC) to continu with booting. It could never boot!!! My computer doesn't even see my hard drive anymore...
Someone else problem? Maybe, but my computer was working fine before with no signs whatsoever that my hard drive was about to die (no hard drive sound, no failures, no errors, no speed problem: nada). So it had to be Avast!
Thank you Avast. By trying to solve minor problems you've created a monster!

Take it easy, it won't help if you get upset...
Did you delete any file that was infected by avast at the boot time scanning? Which one? Do you remember the name and the path of it?
If the computer can't boot, do you see a message, a blue screen, or what?

There's no way Avast can cause the BIOS to stop finding the hard disk drive!

Sounds like you probably have a bad hard disk drive (100 percent hardware failure).

Yeah, I've encounter this before

My HDD seem OK, no problem and suddenly, it takes forever to load Windows, it stuck at the boot screen.

By using another HDD, many files can be recovered and some files are corrupted........and the HDD became completely useless after some time!!!

Your system files must be on the bad sectors!!!

RMA your drive if it is still under warranty
