already done,   I'm at a loss.  Theres only so many hours in a day and i'm logging off  I'll pick it up Thursday..

Eddy,
    I uninstalled avast and reinstalled ver 4.1 now my mail is being scanned, had to be the AV engine..  I set it not  to update avast engine just the VPS files... Just thought i'd let you know.. any forseen problem with this setup?

Shouldn't give you a problem, but keep following this board I would say. I'm sure there is a solution to the problem.

This might sound a bit too simple, but I had exactly the same problem using the Thunderbird email program.

No matter what I tried, the Internet Email icon remained greyed out and the status message just said 'Waiting for subsystem to start'.

After a lot of advice on various possible solutions, I tried the following:

Click on the Internet Email icon to select it. Then click the 'Terminate' button. Now click the 'Start' button to restart the provider.

It worked for me!

BTW This is fixed in the upcoming update (due tomorrow).

If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving's not for you.

Gewitty,   I tried everything using the process of elimination.. My only fix was to uninstall then reinstall without auto updating the program.... the rest is the same..

Just thought i'd let you all know im using netscape 7.2 and upgraded to avast 4.5 (523)  and my mail problems are solved...  Now i'm enjoying the benefits of this program, thanks to all who helped.
