does the computer have internet connection ?

if so, download from here and install  http://filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/

and how to register

On-line registration is very simple and it's the preferred method for all users of avast Free Antivirus 5.x installed on a computer with standard Internet connectivity. To perform on-line registration follow these steps:

Once your laptop is on-line, install it the same as you would on any PC.
If it's off-line, download the program to a USB or CD and install from there.

Just to add to what Pondus just said - download avast and the removal tool for your current installed AV first and save before uninstalling your AV ( Uninstall tools here http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ ) once uninstalled reboot and run the removal tool, reboot again and install avast then register and reboot one last time  :)

Why go to the "filehippo" website? Why not just download directly from avast.com??
