snxhk64.dll
« on: December 27, 2011, 08:15:01 PM »
I recently re-installed Avast as the update suddenly stopped working.  The program appeared to install correctly.

However, every icon I clicked on the Windows desktop then failed to run and came up with an error message to say that a file was missing - .......\avast5\snxhk64.dll.  When I rebooted I got the "blue screen of death".

The only way of getting my PC working was to go into Windows safe mode and restore to immediately before installing avast.

My PC is now running fine but has no anti-virus on it.

I've tried reinstalling twice and got the same result.

My son suggests reinstalling Windows - but he says that for every PC issue, and I think perhaps that might be overkill.

OS is Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) SP1 and all other MS updates installed.

CPU is Intel Quad Core Q8300 2.50 Ghz

RAM = 4MB

Any suggestions as to how I resolve this?

Your assistance would be appreciated - thanks.

Hello, this is definitely avast's fault, or probably a conflict with other software. I'd have several questions:
1) Is there snxhk64.dll files in \Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast folder?
- if this file exists there, then it's a conflict with other software
- if it doesn't, then it's an avast setup bug, or program bug
2) What other security application you're using? Sandboxie? Other virtual applications? etc.

Thanks.
