install as root
« on: December 28, 2011, 11:16:33 AM »
Hi all,

today I decided to install avast! mobile security to see how it works.

I like it and would like to install it as root but cannot.

I tried uninstalling and installing 3 times without being root

The only thing that I can do is permit it to erase all data but cannot do anything root

The phone is (samsung) Google Nexus S with Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3

Thanks
Carlo

How do I root my phone?  ???
Take your model/manufacturer site.
Or Google, for instance, http://www.androidcentral.com/root

Be aware that rooting will generally void your phone's warranty though.

Question:
I do have avast mobile-security installed, (non-root), and now i have seen that i can unlock my HTC Desire HD.
Do i have to uninstall first?
How do i switch from non-rooted phone and non-root-installation of avast, to rooted phone and rooted installation?

Thanks in advance...

...and maybe one additional question:
where can i find a list of improvements, which i gain from rooting the phone?

HTC will provide unlocked phones, but not sure if DHD will be one of it - just go through some forums, like XDA.

Yes i know, that is why i am asking.
DHD is now on the list of phones, so i can easily unlock my bootloader.

Nevertheless:
I am missing somewhat the information, what exactly the benefit is.
I would unlock only for avast mobile.
I am interested in
- being sure that GPS can be enabled
- being sure to keep all avast-functionality, even after wipe (still want to locate)
- keeping all setting after reset to default
But i can not find a comprehensive list of all benefits. I am finding informations here and there... so that is why i started asking...
