Hi,

I've got same problem time to time. I really don't know the cause of this message.

For me it's not a problem - I click "ok" or I wait a while and then system shut down itself.

What version (build) of avast! do you use?
Are there any unpXXXXXX files (X = some numbers) in your <avast4>\Data\Log folder?

Just to rule something out. Have you tested your ram?

I mean -  if you browse to your avast! installation folder and check the Data\Log subfolder - are there any files called unpXXXXXXX there? They may contain more information about the problem.

I think I have the same problem during system shutdown, on XP sp2. But sometimes only. But then everything works fine...

Setiface problems could be solved by openning the <avast>\data\avast4.ini file and in the [Common] section, changing the item
Database=ODBC
to
Database=XML

Can you try and see what you get?

Anyway, can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Alrighty Tech I did what ya suggested and restarted and just to double check

- Program: Already up to date
  (current version 4.5.536)
- Vps: Already up to date
  (current version 0448-1)

I got yesterdays Update which downloaded flawlessly but Im still getting that AshServ prob every couple of times on shutdown and since others are having the issue could it be a problem with Avast ?

Could it be a problem with Avast ?

Sure it could...
Can you copy the error message? You will have to be fast... The error numbers are important. Maybe with them, someone from Alwil could do a test.
In fact, the avast! services are not shuting down properly... Something is wrong and probably it is an interaction between avast and your other programs... (maybe the firewall)  :-\

I had the same problem on my laptop with the previous version of AVAST. I got a lot of suggestions here, but none would/could fix the "ashserv" error.
I gave up.
If there are any solutions for this I would like to see it myself and implement it.
Cheers  :)
