avast Mail Shield port question
« on: April 05, 2012, 06:59:39 AM »
Should the ports that avast uses in its mail shield match the ports in my mail client?  In my mail client, which is Thunderbird, the incoming port is 143, and the outgoing is 587.  Avast is using 993 and 465.  I did not set the ports myself, but I had always thought that they needed to match for it to work correctly.  I'm a noob when it comes to networking so I'd love it if someone could verify if these settings are ok.  And I did disable SSL/TLS in Thunderbird as well.

if you have a account with SSL/TLS and want avast to scan the mail, you must sett to normal no SSL/TLS in your mail client and sett the SSL/TLS in avast, so that it will take care of the secure connection

but it seem you have a no secure IMAP connection

does the mail work as normal.....does avast scan it ?

avast is scanning my emails, so I think it is working.  The smtp port avast is using is 465 and the imap port is 993, so I think the settings are correct.  I was confused as to what ports I was supposed to use, but it seems that avast chose them for me.
