I guess you could say Eduard Kučera is the president (chairman). He's also the co-founder of avast! Software.

Back to the topic for a minute. :)

Detection might be improved by cloud technologies.  But what about removal rates which have not been good as well?  What can or might be done to address this?

Maybe I'm wrong, but for now there is not much we (simple users) can do. My guess is that Avast Team has been collecting requests, suggestions, bugs, experience... over the years, and they know about the industry enough so to make a decent beta. We (simple users) will be able to review and test the beta, and the suggestions and requests will continue, not just before this first beta but all the time.

So, with or without patience, maybe the best we can do for now is wait a few days/weeks/months, and then keep suggesting ideas :).

Just catching up with the forum and clicked through to that article.  I find this part alarming:

"Vlcek went on to talk about what's coming in the 2012 Avast suite, due next February. Avast will be moving at least some of its threat definitions to the cloud"

It seems to me that moving definitions to the cloud by extension means that the supposed security software must transmit your files and/or data about your files to the cloud where things are analyzed.  A purely manual feature that is only explicitly triggered by the user to perform some kind of extra special analysis via the cloud is one thing.  A thing security/privacy conscious people wouldn't need to protect against (they would simply not use it or be careful to only submit files they know aren't sensitive in some way).  However, my gut is telling me that isn't what he is referring to.

Please tell me future Avast users won't have to expose themselves to the profound security and privacy risk that is having their supposed *security software* send information about their files to the cloud (or any other remote system) for scanning/detections.  I never expected to see the day that security professionals reshaped their software to violate basic tenants of security/privacy and behave similarly to spyware, but I fear I'm seeing that.

As it will be a beta then be prepaired for it to have some bugs as this is the whole point of beta testing.
If something doesn't work then you report it so that the bugs can be fixed, if you cant handle problems in beta testing then dont install the beta ( simple as that ).

Now I'm really trembling.  ;D

When are going to learn that there is no such thing as a perfect AV.
Every AV misses things. The infection always comes first and the protection for that infection follows.

Excuse me nsm0220 how "can" you "make" avast stop an infection?  ???  I thought avast did that on its own.  ;D
