Avast update with local SMTP
« on: November 25, 2004, 09:27:26 PM »
Hi, I own a Windows XP SP2, and since the 4.5 update I've been having problems to send mail. My exact situation, is that I have IIS smtp service installed, so I can send mail from anywhere.

Every time I try to send an e-mail, I receive the following error (In Outlook 2003):

Task 'XXXXXXX - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC78) : 'Unable to send the message. Please verify the e-mail address in your account properties.  The server responded: 550 no SMTP server defined. Use avast! Mail Protection Wizard to configure it.'

I look at my SMTP server, and it is localhost, as it is normal for Avast.
The only way I can fix this, is closing outlook, starting the Mail Wizard, and selecting "automatically remove protection from all accounts", but every time I restart my computer, The problem will com back

Upgrade to 4.5.536 and let us know if the problem is solved.

You basically need to configure your mail client as if avast was not installed. Mail scanning in avast 4.5 works transparently.

Are you saying that some other process keeps restoring the 127.0.0.1 server values in Outlook?

BTW are you using a firewall? If so, which one?

Thx

The problem is, I really have my SMTP on 127.0.0.1, or localhost..., so the change in it doesn't matter, plus, I checked my ports, and they are configured OK.

Remember, this only happens when I restart My PC

I'm in the process of downloading the beta version, wait for news....

Well.

Try deleting the following values

PopListen=127.0.0.1:110
SmtpListen=127.0.0.1:25
ImapListen=127.0.0.1:143

from the file <avast>\data\avast4.ini.

I'm wondering - haven't you ever gotten a warning that some of the ports (25, 110, 143) is already occupied? (Either with avast 4.1 or 4.5)

Cheers

I Never see that one... strange....

Vlk, thanks for your help, edited the avast.ini, and all worked wonderful...

Eddy, thanks for your suggestion, but I prefer not to install betas on my production laptop.
